A new Fregate Island is yet to come…
As one of the most revered hideaways in the Seychelles, Fregate Island will remain an ultra-exclusive sanctuary offering the same privacy and seclusion that guests have loved over the years.
The new sustainable property will be similar in both size and area footprint. However, the significantly larger 18 villas are going to blend into nature and will be redesigned to be made out of glass, stone and lightwood. In addition, state of the art technology will minimize energy consumption through partial use of solar energy. A new road system and upgraded building infrastructure will ensure our island operates even more sustainably.
While the imaginary doors to Fregate Island will be closed, the conservation team will ramp up and remain on site to continue their work protecting and restoring nature during the building time.
The restoration and perception of its unique flora and fauna has always been and will continue to be a fundamental raison d’être for years head of Fregate Island. A splinter of the former supercontinent Gondwana, the unique and special island acts as an ecological sanctuary for dozens of species and will do so for many years to come. Fregate Island is home to a unique assortment of precious and fascinating flora and fauna, like the critically endangered Magpie Robin, the Fregate Beetle and the famed Giant Aldabra Tortoises.
The Conservation & Sustainability department will continue to oversee all aspects of the island’s environment from habitat management, landscaping, biosecurity, pesticide use and scientific research as well as studies and projects in cooperation with different NGO’s.
