Greece remains open for American tourists
Greece has chosen to continue to welcome visitors from the United States until the end of the tourism season, ignoring the non-binding advice by the European Union, recognizing their importance in increasing tourism revenues.

The European Union recommended in late August that Americans should be banned from nonessential travel to its 27 member states after a rise in Covid-19 cases in the country. The US does not allow travellers from Europe to enter the country.

EU Recommends Halting Non-Essential Travel From U.S. Over Rising COVID-19 Infections
As we expected given reports over the weekend, the European Union (EU) has now recommended halting non-essential travel from the U.S. because of the rise of COVID-19 cases and the spread of the Delta variant of COVID. Europe now considers the U.S. to be a “red” country with rising infections.

The EU’s recommendation generated some initial confusion on social media and in press reports, with some people writing that Americans had been banned from visiting Europe outright. The recommendation actually does not mean Americans won’t be able to visit Europe, but their vaccination status may soon affect their ability to travel there more than it did before.
