Born from a love for the Maldives, Velaa Private Island is the passion project of a couple, Radka and Jiří Šmejc, to create the world’s most luxurious private island resort and personal home. Located in Noonu Atoll, a 45 minute seaplane flight from Malé, Velaa is a destination in a category of its own, home to an array of amenities unseen across the Indian Ocean. Velaa shares its name with generations of sea turtles which have inhabited the island for countless years. Each of the 47 villas, houses and residences are constructed using natural materials. Insider Tips:

  • The island of Velaa is reachable by a 45 minute scenic seaplane ride from Velana International Airport (MLE). Standard transfers are booked on a 15 seater public seaplane, operated by Trans Maldivian Airways. Alternatively, a private charter can be arranged on a Velaa-branded 9 seater luxury seaplane. Guests travelling to Maldives via private jet can opt to land at Maafaru International Airport, 26.6km from Velaa Private Island Maldives. From there, a modern fleet of vessels can be booked for the 35 minute over-water transfer.
  • 18 of the 47 villas are built over-water offering magnificent sunrise or sunset views and direct access into the crystal-clear lagoon and pristine coral reef beyond.
